hardware abstraction layer?

Hi all,

I really want to buy an very useful mp3 tagging piece of software, but after inspecting the licence conditions it states that I can only swap PCs once - when I do i have to use a one-time-only licence transfer code.

Now, worst case scenario is that I change my graphics card and it see's it a a PC change and I have to use my 1 and only transfer code. If I upgrade another piece of hardware I would then be unable to use the software.

I've had a thought that maybe a virtual machine will act as a hardware abstraction layer and only expose specific hardware information no matter what the underlying hardware is? Does this sound right? does any/all virtual machine software have this ability?

thanks for any ideas/advice!

it doesnt state what it is. I've sent them an email asking as I often upgrade bits and pieces and dont want it to stop working in a few months.

not sure if I can mention the software (if not please remove this). Its called tuneupmedia.

thanks,

I tried MediaMonkey a couple of years ago but I ended up having to use it in conjunction with another app as well (to add the covers if I remember correctly?).

I will give it another go and see if its the all-in-one solution that tuneupmedia is.

thanks all.
