Edit: should read Media PLAYER Classic

Hi all

Just noticed some jittering on my PC with a 720p h.264 file in Media Centre Classic. I checked CPU usage and it hovers between 30 and 50% CPU usage...my understanding is that this should be more like 5% if DXVA is working correctly.

Does anyone have any guides as to how to get this working correctly? I've enabled EVR custom in the output options. What else do I have to do?

My OS is W7 HP x64, latest version of MPC. My GPU is 8800GT as per sig.

Many thanks.

Does the playback window show DXVA in the bottom left corner during playback? That's several orders of magnitude too high a CPU usage for a 720p!

Also, update to the latest MPC, and also GFX drivers.

Do you mean Media Centre or Media Player Classic? And if it's MPC then do the above, you may not even be using MPC-HC but the outdated MPC.

They should really rename MPC-HC to something different from anything else.

Not sure re DXVA indicator, I don't think so. I'll check tonight, thanks. Regarding the latest version, my screenshots look the same as the website for MPC-HC in the link you gave me and I'm sure I only updated it a few months ago. I'll make sure it's the latest version tonight though. Incidentally the file info in MPC shows it as an H.264 MKV, not sure if this makes any difference in terms of whether or not the file should be supporting GPU acceleration? Do all 'HD' files support acceleration?

Sorry, Media Player Classic. I think I'm using MPC-HC but will check this tonight.

So basically what you're saying is that if I have:

- The latest GPU drivers.
- The latest version of MPC-HC.
- A supported video file.

...then it should all work automatically?

Many thanks :).

You missed one step. Go into preferences, internal filters (iirc), check the boxes marked with DXVA. For example you may have something like x264 (ffdshow) with x264 (DXVA). If the first is ticked but the second isn't it would explain the issue.

I'm using MPC-HC 64x v1.5.1.2903 - 29 February 2011 and made no change to settings and I get 1-5% CPU usage with DXVA HD content, using an GTX 480 with 270.61 drivers.

Short version; all sorted, thanks guys!

Long version; this is what I've just done:

- Loaded MPC-HC and confirmed as the Home Cinema version.
- Played the file in question and confirmed that DXVA is showing in the bottom left hand corner.
- Checked CPU usage - still exorbitant.
- Checked I had latest GPU drivers - yep.
- Downloaded latest version of MPC-HC, loaded file...CPU usage now at 5%! Smooth, no stuttering. Also the picture looks a lot better...not sure if this is placebo.

Anyway problem solved so thanks all :D.
