What happens when you turn on. Does it POST? What issues were you having with Vista?

couldnt get anyhting to install on vista, and things starting generally going wrong-like recycle bin just disappeared, but like i said-couldnt install any of my stuff anyway
i just turned it on, booted from xp disc, it loaded windows set-up, got to screen with 3 options;-
enter to set-up windows
r to repair previous install
f3 to quit
it would'nt do anything with me hitting any keys at all, and even last time when i hit enter, it loaded set-up files, rebooted and then just stayed on "press any key to boot from cd" screen in dos, it probably would have done this even if it reacted to me hitting enter?>?>??
