Just thought I'd do a thread. It'll likely sink like a stone but we'll have a laugh whilst doing it, I'm sure.

I was just remembering when back before I built my current PC and how I was so close to buying a Pentium D and potentially clocking it up to 4Ghz (thinking this was great) - before instead going on a rumour about a potential Core 2 Duo processor that was soon coming out and waiting.

Have you ever been patient and been rewarded for it? Perhaps the wait wasn't worth it? Did you buy just before a massive price crash or new launch and regretted it?

I think the most painful ones of recent would be those who bought the £500 AMD chips just before the Conroe was released.

Anyway. Yeah. :D Hardware is probably one of the cruelest markets for this type of thing, so it has potential.

You could argue that my choice of socket 754 for my A64 wasn't very wise when socket 939 lasted a lot longer but then I don't tend to upgrade regularly so it makes no difference plus it was cheaper for an equivalent CPU, motherboard and Ram than the socket 939 option.

The only annoying thing is that my motherboard has never had working AGP/PCI locks so I can't even attempt to overclock the CPU.

the waiting game is an everlong thing.. its always wise to wait for better products at cheaper prices.. the best options is to ony upgrade when you need too and not be to eger

Me to....

My 939 system hasnt cost much and its still rocking along for all its uses...

Some parts new, some from MM, and some from B-Grade etc.... hasnt cost me much at all, makes it all the more better when i overclock and get more extra performance... :D

Going over to a 939 sli rig from a 754 one and finding no performance gain at all!!

A week after changing over to 939 my crappy Hiper 580w blew up (literally, big bang, black acrid smoke, change of pants) and took out my brand new DFI mobo.

The 939 rig lasted 2 months before going over to Core2Duo and buying the worst motherboard i have ever had the misfortune of owning. The Abit FP-IN9 Sli. Had it a total of 5 days before returning it under the DSR's for my excellent DS3P. I now have the bestest, easiest clocking rig i have ever owned.

Well thats hardly surprising, 754 - 939, you won't see much between those.
