Am i correct in think that alli would need is a standard built in tv tuner for this.

And obviously one of many free softwares on net, to run it on.

For example, I have a Sky Box, i have a HDMI lead(Gives both sound & picture right?).

I connect one end into back of Sky Box useing HDMI slot, and other end in my computers HDMI slot. Aslong as got a tv tuner in it, and one of free softwares to broadcast cast, that is all i need right?

Or am i missing something:confused:

I think that should work yeah
I broadcast using a Hauppauge HD PVR and I used to use a Dazzle which are both similar concepts.

Hi just had look at Hauppauge.

Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-T USB Stick - DVB-T Digital freeview TV tuner stick

Found, going for around £30, would this be good enough? Im guessing what you use is a lot more expensive!

I dont think I've seen a tuner card with a HDMI port on it. Thats not to say there isnt one.

Most TV tuner cards allow you to plug an aerial in and recieve freeview. If you wanted to watch sky via your PC the best bet would probably be to plug the sky boxs in via the composite connections.

For example the WinTV-NOVA-T USB Stick - DVB-T Digital only has an aerial co-ax input so you would not be able to plug a HDMI cable in to that.

What do you actually want to do? Watch your sky box remotely over the net? If so I'd have a look at a sling media slingbox.

Thanks guys, im obviously slightly confused.

My idea was, that if your laptop/computer had built in tv tuner(or usb stick tv tuner), then i could hook my laptop upto my tv, and stream whats on my tv online.

I did not think, the connection from pc to tv, had to be via the tv tuner itself, i was under the impression, the tv tuner is some kind of hardware that just lets you stream it online.

The tv & pc have to be connected, and my idea was useing a hdmi cable which i have now, and which i use now, when hooking up my laptop, so i can have bigger screen surfing the net etc...

So im trying to do opposite really, and put whats on my tv onto my pc.
With tv tuner, that gives me option so im led to believe.

Thanks for link, but i was not planning on spending that much anyway, £30 was my most.

I know people do it on £20 capture cards, i was thinking a tv tuner is same as capture card.

Im very confused now:(

The above post slightly confusing, i will need to connect it from laptop to sky box, not laptop to tv i think. But you get what im trying to do.:o

Can anyone help here, google is no help at all.

Just checked, standard Sky Box has no HDMI slot on back. Im guessing to stream something from the Box, it needs to be connected from the box to laptop, and not from tv to laptop?

If that is the case, a standard tv tuner card is useless, but a capture card like this is what is needed?

I would need a cable for that, one with yellow red & white sockets on the end, i forget what they call it, would have to be doubled ended also, as one for capture card end, and other for back of sky box.

Is that correct. But a capture card doesn't have tv tuner on it, so is the tv tuner not needed after all:confused:

It still isn't clear what you are trying to do. Are you trying to get content onto your laptop or get your laptop screen output to the TV?

USB tuner card will work for getting terrestrial broadcast channels but you need to plug it into the aerial socket on the wall, not the TV.

Likewise you can plug the composite output of a regular skybox into the USB tuner and watch on your laptop.

Hopefully this clears it up:o

I want to get whats on my normal tv(I.E my Sky tv), onto my laptop, and stream it online.

Im just wondering what i need, i know i need either some sort of tv tuner or video capture card, and a few cables.

Can anyone give me exactly what i need, most i would spend on a capture card is £30 though.

I know once you have hardware, i need a software(loads free online), I just need to know what hardware i need.

Q: Do you yourself want to watch your skybox remotely over the internet?

If yes:

Buy a slingbox.

It's not 30 quid but it will do what you want.

If you want to stream it for broadcast (i.e. more than one viewer) then you will almost certainly be violating Sky's T&C.

Option B;)

Rupert Murdoch is also violating my pocket:D

It will just be a private stream for a few, nothing major or even charging for it. If gets shutdown like they do on JTV,Ustream etc... so be it

Old bill will hardly come bashing my door down.;)

Don't get me wrong, there's no love lost between Rupert and me :D

But as you're already aware, it's likely to get stomped on pretty sharpish :(

So if that hauppage thingy mentioned above actually works you can use the RF out on the sky box, and whatever service was suggested.

Still not going to happen for 30 quid though :)

Not really mate, streams every week for football etc... they just get shut down.

Mine will be on my own private site for members only. say around 30 people.

I think be ok, and will only be streaming one event a week, not 24/7.

Anyway, can you tell me what i need to do this;)
