I just recieved a Q6600 in the post today I bought off members market.
Initally i just turned off my overclock in bios but decided to just reset bios.
Powered down my pc, pressed reset cmos! took off the waterblock. Removed my cpu, inserted new q6600 carefully! a dab of paste in the middle.. resecured waterblock.
Powered up pc... it wouldnt post. Had a fiddle just incase i had knocked anything, tried again and still nothing.
Put back in my own cpu.. still not posting?
What the hell has gone wrong? is it possible that the Quad has killed my mobo.
The LCD poster haults on DET_DRAM, the hard drives all spin up but the screen doesnt come on, nor does the light on the keyboard.

Try having only 1 stick of ram in and see if it boots

Did you earth yourself and unplugged it from the wall?

If its saying DET_DRAM try taking a stick of RAM out and just using one at a time.

ok that was a weird one. I have 4 sticks of ram in my machine. 2x OCZ reaper, 2x OCZ SLI stuff. The SLI being the slower of the two. Now you can have both reapers in and it posts. You can have both reapers and 1 sli stick in and it will post, but if u run all 4 it doesnt. I tried 3 sticks with both the sli's one at a time and both sli's are happy but as soon as you put in both sli sticks at once it wont post. Same happens when its just the sli sticks in, it wont post.
What the hell?? it was all working fine for the last 5 months 4 sticks. Hmm... maybe the voltage aint high enuff for the sli's... gonna adjust that.. remember i did reset cmos!!
