Hardware incompatibility

Recently purchased a Gigabyte Z87X-D3H Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard with the Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1150 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) and I've had to resort to the stock fan because the base plate of the Alpenföhn , being 1155 compatible and having the extra wings for AMD compatible motherboard, are incompatible with my Gigabyte mobo because of various capacitors being directly under there location, right next to the CPU.

So I've opened up an RMA with Overclockers and I'm going to send it back for a refund (by the way, do I pay for postage and packaging or have I missed something - I ought to go over those details), and I wonder if anybody has any suggestions on what CPU fan I should get alternatively. Or is there somewhere I can get just a socket 1150 base plate to use with the Matterhorn?

I've written to Alpenföhn but they haven't got back to me and are being quite unhelpful in the situation.

Any advice is nice.
 
Images of it is the Back plate on this page http://www.overclockers.co.uk/pimg/HS-037-AL_49243_600.jpg Its the 4 prongs that do not protrude diagonally from the center of the main plate.

snips86x - I'm hoping you're right. Maybe I'm wrong in my understanding about how the base plate fits to the CPU holder. I might give it another go. Does the main plate not sit right on top of the holder?
 
Yeah, that seems like the problem I've got. It's like i ought to sheer off the AMD prongs in order to fit it to the board. :\

Problem is I don't know anybody with the right tool.
 
That's it! Stulid, you hero. Thank you. I've never put one of these on before and that was what I was missing. for some reason, I thought the bloody thing was meant to go on the front of the board, but as you've demonstrated that's not the case. My box was missing its instructions and I just couldn't find anything ...translated... that I made it clear enough for a noob like me to use.
