The Background:

So a couple of months ago, my PSU literally went up in smoke...I bought a cheap replacement PSU (More than anything just to test that it was just my PSU that had bitten the bullet), and plumbed it in and tried powering on my system... Nothing happened..:( I therefore assumed the worst and the PSU had taken my mobo and probably CPU with it.

Last week, I bought a new mobo, CPU, memory, and PSU...Ripped the innards out of my system and put my new purchases in...Pressed the power button... Nothing.. So a little sleuthing showed me that when I powered everything BUT the graphics card it would power on, but as soon as I plugged in the 8 +6 pin for my GTX980Ti, nothing would work... The conclusion being, the bloody PSU had murdered my Gfx too...:(

Yesterday I dipped my hand in my pocket again and bought a cheap (ish) GTX 1050, just to try and get up and running in order to see what state my system was in... It doesn't require additional power, and the fans sped up the moment I turned the power on...But I have no displays... I didn't even get a BIOS splash screen.

I even tried one of the monitors on the mobo's graphic's ports and nothing...

The questions/please for help:

Am I not seeing the BIOS screen due to it expecting to boot to a graphics card and I have another issue (And this is what I fear)... such as maybe the cruel Gods of electricity took my SSD out too?

Surely plugging a monitor into my new mobo gfx port should get me at least a BIOS splash screen?

Is there anything I'm missing that I could check here? (Given its been about 3 years since my last system build... I'm a little rusty..;P)

My assumption is I've gotto replace my ssd which had my O/S on it... I am going to remove it this week and try plugging it into another computer to see if I read it, but my instinct said it died the same time as my PSU and GFX.

Thoughts?

The old PSU was a Corsair RM1000 1000W FGold PSU - Lasted me a little over 3 years then literally went up in smoke..:/

Thanks a lot Danny75, I am not sure the PSU /is/ still under warranty, but I will check the details when I get back home this evening... I had planned on trying the boot up without an SSD tonight, the advice about draining the power first though is a good addition..:)

Update: Hmm Ok so I removed the SSD and power drained... So far still no BIOS screen... I will try the CMOS thing, but I am curious about your thinking there given its a brand new mobo in the system... Someone else advised removing the memory as apart from the CPU, memory is usually the only other thing that might stop a system posting... So going to try that tonight and see how I get on.

Its an Intel 7700K...I'll try memory next (when I've the time was busy yesterday) and see if that gets me to BIOS... otherwise I'll haul the case out and inspect the cpu...
