Hardware problem ? - Ingame freezes

My computer regularly freeze after about 10 minutes, it stays on and displays the image of the point where it froze and the sound loops the last half a second until I turn it off.

Setup

2.60 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
Board: MSI MS-7310 10
2 Gig Corsair ram 800
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

Currently on XP 64 SP2 (build 3790), however had the same problem on 32. Tried new/old graphics drivers, makes no difference.

Is it one or two sticks of ram?

you could try running it with each stick individually to try and rule out faulty memory.

Could give a bootable copy of memtest a try too

Update your graphics drivers. Also when it freezes leave it on to see if any strange lines appear on-screen - this can happen if the driver goes into an infinite loop "thread_stuck_in_device_driver" but as the driver is not responding the BSoD cannot be displayed.

Two sticks of ram, using the latest drivers at the moment.

I had similar problems and it was faulty memory in the end. Give memtest a run

+1 , had similar issue on my previous machine, especially when playing games, freezes and sound loops. Removed memory one by one and found faulty stick, all okay afterwards
