Hardware Problem installing Vista.

Hi All.

I just build a new PC with the specs below (signature). Im trying to install a copy of Vista 32 Bit. It freezes mostly when I get to expanding files between 5-50% and then i restart. I built a similair PC and it works fine. When it reads the CD it seems the power kicks in, then it will go quiet for a bit and if I move my mouse the power kicks in again. Here is what i've tried:

Put my other hard drive with vista on in this pc, i can log in, then it will freeze.

I replaced the GPU and i get the same problem.

I ran MEMTEST86 on this PC it always fails, but if i use the same ram on another PC it works. I even put some other ram (OCZ reaper 4GB) in and it still failed on this build.

I put in another PSU (Corsair 620 HX) and it managed to log in but then froze.

I just understand what the problem can be. I pretty much tried all I can think of. Even tried installing XP and it froze. Firstly i thought maybe PSU dodgy rail or something. I did get a new mobo and sent the old one back, but that seems to be ok. And i replaced the CPU with an identical one i have in another PC.

If anyone have any suggestions, id greatly appeciate it. Sorry for the loong post

Memory voltages? If the memory is unstable in that system, but not the other.

What tests is it failing in memtest?

You could also try raising the CPU / FSB Voltage just to make sure.

Is the system at stock?

(Also, before the Sig police get here, 4 lines max.)

Oh i didnt try that. The other system with is the same build, have the CPU OC to 3ghz and memory timings altered. should I make the memory volt/timing identical to the system?

as for memtest it fails on the first one, continously.

system is at default settings. and i havent touched cpu/FSB voltage

If the other system is identical it can't hurt to try.

Vista installation just hangs over and over again, then it gets to a point where it will freeze, ill go try changes the settings and see what happens. thanks...be back in a bit with the results.

Ill even take all the ram and put in in my other pc and run memtest see what happens.

Ok well i just took the 2GB from the problem PC and put it in the other pc and ran memtest. working perfectly fine, passing all tests. what else chud it be in the PC thats causing memtest to fail? i have a spare 80GB HDD i chud try. worth a try?

Ok i just took the memory from the problem PC and put it in my other pc to run memtest passed with flying colors. but if i put it back in that system it fails. I've tested all parts in the PC. chud it be the CPU? When it gets under load it just freezes. I was going to try taking my CPU out on my PC and put it in the problem pc and see what happens.

Does anyone think a Hard driive connected via IDE would work? or doesnt ide/sata matter?

HDD won't affect Memtest. Sounds like a dodgy mobo or CPU, mobo would be more likely. Underclock the CPU to see if there's an improvement.
