Hardware RAMDISK

Think you might be better off going for the 32gb samsung SSD instead. They're about £230 at the moment.

Isn't that based on flash memory? So performance won't even be as good as a 7200RPM SATA drive...

I used to run Football Manager from a ramdisk, was really nice and fast... but i can't for the life of me remember the name of the program I used. :o

the i-ram is only about 100 quid, and RAM for it up to 8GB of DDR will rush you about 100 as well.

The SSD would be nice and it would be fast, but the ramdisk would be even faster once loaded up. It has a battery to keep your data when you turn power off.

I'm just interested to see if anyone has any real life experience with them

I found this video a couple of months ago when I was interested in iRam as well. Link here. It shows how much quicker it can make your OS on startup and if you take a look, I think you'll agree it's quite a bit quicker :) (unless of course you've got some raptors setup in a RAID config or somethin :p)

Anyway I figured I couldn't justify spending at least £200 for another 8Gb of storage, even if it was really fast.

Thought the max for the i-ram was 4x1gb DDR?

The I-Ram 2 was going to be awesome with up to 4x2Gb DDR2, but it seems to have been shelved by gigabyte :(

There were lots of benchies floating around when they first came out, guys even set them up in raid - they were good, but not worth the cash/hassle unfortunately, again the I-Ram2 was to address many of the problems, but alas...

Edit: Just seen the price on the Hyperdrive 4 - £1300 just for the bay - ouch!
