Hello,

Just wondered if anyone knew the best way to stream spotify round my house bearing in mind I don't own anything Apple related so Airplay is out of the question.

Logitech Squeezebox looked promising then I read it was being discontinued.

DLNA also looked promising but my understanding is this only works with files not streaming audio that Spotify uses.

Bluetooth came to mind but then the distance limitations looked like an issue.

If whatever speaker system is suggested could pick up Radio 1, 4 etc. that'd be the perfect set of features.

Not really looking to spend more than a few hundred, all options welcome!

My hardware currently consists of my signature and a Nexus 4.

Thanks

David

I don't have a Nexus 4 but surely it has a headphone jack no? Can you not install the spotify app and use a set of 2.1 speakers with the Nexus?

If you want the thing to be portable. I blagged a speaker like THIS with my phone upgrade. It's surprisingly good and does have some bass to it.

Certainly the cheapest and simplest option and to be honest this is what I may end up doing. Maybe I could incorporate the 'Logitech Wireless Speaker Adaptor for Bluetooth Audio Devices' to lose some wires.

I actually have the very same - albeit a name branded version but looks the same to me! Awesome for camping etc.

I think you are looking for a system like Sonos, but not sure of the pricing, could be expensive.
Yeah I guess my best bet would be something like a Sonos Play: 3 but quite pricey.

If you can afford it, go for Sonos.

I've played with it at a friends house and it is definitely a big investment - I just setup my Raspberry Pi with Raspbmc and use Airplay with it with some £30 stereo speakers plugged into it, nice and easy and gets my music to speakers :) obviously as the OP is not an Apple device user this isn't an option but it just shows how you can get good solutions on a budget.

Need to get a USB soundcard on it though as the feedback from the onboard audio is UNBEARABLE. I've been using the TV and using the HDMI sound for the moment as there is no feedback. Also works with video but a bit laggy.
