I am looking for the cheapest way to get a device/hardware that will run Sky Go on a TV.

It will need to be cheap (as stated), I'll need to lock it to only run Sky Go through a wireless broadband connection, and have a remote - in short, replace a sky box which, due to location, cannot connect to the dish (which is useless in poor weather anyway!)

Any suggestions?

I need just a system that I can set going and then run from a remote, I have keyboard/mouse but no OS.

Really I would also like it to also auto boot to the sky go if the power gets shut off (so the wife treats it exactly like a skybox - no faffing about)

I'm not really to clued up on these type of system but this is the type of hardware to inside it.

You need to pick yourself a case out.

Have gone with the SSD as it will be quicker than normal HDD and cheaper, if you want you can drop it down to a 60GB one to save some cash.

Cheers for that but I have a few systems lying around I could use but I was really after the way of doing it - are there any dedicated boxes like pvr out there that can do this etc or dedicated software?

you can get a decent xbox for £50 maybe less and the sky go on there is great i take mine to my gfs every week to watch all the movies and stuff

sounds ok, but I'd rather have a dedicated machine to do this - what about using a raspberry pi? anyone know a way?

on the other hand, could I lock out the xbox (are we talking XBOX360 here?) to do nothing else but Skygo?

To use Sky Go on a computer you'd need an OS of some sort on there still though. With an Xbox you just select it from the dashboard which appears in a few seconds of turning on.

Much better solution IMO.

Agreed.

I'm using an xbox with a faulty DVD drive for Sky Go and Netflix in the spare room. Even browses the internet with the latest beta dashboard. Oh, I shouldn't have told you that. Hmm.

What do I need to watch TV with Sky on Xbox 360?

To enjoy Sky TV on your Xbox 360, you'll need a broadband connection with a minimum speed of 2MB, a Sky TV or Sky Go subscription, an Xbox LIVE Gold account, at least 60MB of free space on your Xbox 360 hard drive and a Sky iD.

know nothing about XBOX except I got it to try Kinect!

Guess I would have to pay for a Gold Live account - kinda defeats the object, want to do it for free as I have sky and dont fancy paying more for just a media center.

Cheers for the info but has anyone got any other ideas?

its really to replicate, as much as possible, what I have at home in the sky box, when the wife is away weekly commuting with just a tv and internet connection.

basically want the unit to be dedicated, switch on to sky go, and run - anything else and she'll find a way to crash it and I wont be there to sort it out.

What you want they don't make.

I'd still go the Xbox route - it's as close to idiot proof as you are going to get. It also opens up other options like Netflix and Lovefilm streaming and most of the catch-up TV options are on there from the terrestrial TV firms. £25/year for XBL gold is well worth the lack of earache compared to a custom PC that doesn't work right.

An Acer Revo. Sits nicely under your TV connected via HDMI, and then just get a wireless keyboard and mouse.

With the Xbox method, it is easier to navigate to Sky Go and the closest you will get to a Sky box, but AFAIK there's no way to put it on the starting screen and you have to go via Videos etc which I found annoying. I just want to be able to come home, fire up my Xbox and be able to watch Sky Go right away. You can use an Xbox remote which is a plus compared to a mouse and keyboard. But then you gotta pay for XBL Gold.
