Hardwiring to cig lighter...

De-solder the spring and outer metal long pins, solder new wire on get two of those wire clamps that allow you to tap into a existing wire without cutting it, job done :)

Just get an inline fuse and put that inbetween the snap on connectors and the existing garmin plug wire ;)

Can be had from halfords mega cheap.

I was hoping it would have been a case of just cutting it off and wiring the minus and plus.

I totaly forgot about it being 5v.

Where's the cheapeat place to get an cig extension from? I'll only be cutting off the female end to hardwire. Also what are them blue things called what you can tap into the power?

THx
It's called a Scotchlock. Thought you were good with electrics?!

You can get a cigar lighter socket, wire that to you lighter socket. That way you retain your existing plug/fuse and if needed it is easily removable should you want to sell it. It also makes a tidy install, if you have enough space to stuff it all behind your dash.

You can get the adapter plug from the big electronics place that begins with M and ends in N - part number FE42V

Wouldn't be fused tho :(

Been thinking about getting an extension cable, cutting it off and hard wiring that and plugging it in that way.

thats what i did, i've got a 3 way adapter hardwired into the rear of the cig lighter and my satnav / phone charger things plugged into that.
