Finished my first attempt at processing todays Hillclimb photos, im very happy TBH, ive got 400 infocus sharp shots out of 800, of them 400 ive got 125 that im sending for printing and 76 uploaded that are differant enough. This is easily the highest % of keepers ive had on any shoot and makes me feel im getting better.

I tend to have a second stab at processing as i feel thats still my biggest weakness, since using Aperture ive got more confidance to play with the sliders, as it doesnt seem to introduce the harsh noise RSP and PSCS2 seem to, so based on any comments and critisism recieved I will update the gallery to suit.

If uyou would beso kind as to have a browse through, and pic out any to critic id be very appreciatative. Please check past the first page, I need to randomise them as they are all uploaded in order of taking so the viewpoints get repetative.

All taken with 1dmkII, 24-70f2.8, 70-200f2.8IS or 300f2.8IS, exifs should be embedded in full size versions.
Thanks in advance, Darryn.

Obviously I had a look through them on msn. My only critic would be the odd blurred post in a few shots. Nothing that isnt hard to clone out either. Im very impressed by these shots and your skills regarding panning are getting progressively better :)

Panning has worked well. I think though that many of the cars are too tightly cropped. I recommend that you could include space in front of the cars to show where the car is travelling, express movement and add some more context to the shot. Afterall, the background is a much a part of the photo as the foreground.

Also, you could try a few more close up detailed shots rather than just showing the whole car.

Thanks for the comments, ive not done much cropping on most of them (just cropped to 4x3 from printing), but your saying basically, crop either much closer in on the driver/detail, or crop wider and leave more room for the cars to travel into. Thanks very much I can work with that and I will check through and see if I can improve any using that info.

The panning is looking ok, though i think you could be a bit more ambitious and use lower shutter speeds sometimes to create more interesting shots. A number of the photos don't show that much speed really, which is a bit unfortunate.

You're a bit like me as i also struggle to find more interesting angles to shoot at events like this. It's hard for example, to get a background that's not just a bit of track and grass!

In my view, the more interesting shots are the ones where they aren't just side on images of cars, as everyone has them, and they get a bit boring, you need to search for something a bit different :)

Thanks Matt, I found a really good headon position of the cars coming out of the last corner, I was laying on the ground at the side of the track peeping around a barrier, great, and then a marshall came and moved me.... I hadnt noticed the 4 no entry signs id passed to get there.

To try and get a bit more feedback here are my favourite 5, please tell me whats wrong with these so I can try and improve on them in future events.

1. Remove the post. Otherwise ok. I do always try to include either none of the wheel, exactly half of the wheel or all of the wheel on these types of close-up shots.

2. The Pug would look better towards the bottom of the frame - adds mroe impact this wya.

3. Bright sunlight ruins these typ of shots (I hate it). The front of the car is in shadow, which is a bit distracting.

4. Again would look better towards the bottom. Otherwise a good shot.

5. I like tha vertical panorama, However, I thnk it should have the car more over to the left, so it has space to move into.

This is sort of nit-picking, but still my opinion.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks very much, exactly what I wanted, I will try tomorrow morning to recrop and touch up those and see if I can improve them. :)
