Logitech replaced my beloved Harmony One due to the battery swelling which apparently is a known issue. However they have sent me the supposed successor, the Harmony Touch.

It was always going to feel different, but after several weeks I just can't say I like it. The lack of physical buttons and their logical placement is terrible.

I was going to sell it on the auction site and pick up a Harmony One again, only to see the last few remaining good examples/new ones command a premium. One guy is trying to sell one for £400 which is just obscene.

Looking through the current Harmony range, none look as appealing as the Harmony One.

Suggestions?

For reference, it would be to control only 3 devices, possibly 4 by the end of the year (TV, surround audio, media player and games console).

Can I ask who/where did you contact at Logitech because I have a bulging battery

They were very helpful, I've heard about Logitech's customer care before, they were very helpful, especially given my remote was 3 years old!

They just ask for a photo of the remote then send you a new one, amazing.

Is there no chance of getting the battery out of your harmony one. The battery life in mine went off a cliff and I noticed i couldn't get the battery out by hand. I managed to get it out with pliers and got a replacement off the bay for about 6 quid. Back to full working health.

...I manged to get my battery out with some needlenose pliers, the annoying this is by then I had already called Logitech. Once they arrange a replacement they remotely (pun) disable your existing remote. You can still use it, but when you go to make any changes using the software it tells you it's disabled. I ended up selling it on the auction site for spares or repairs.

Basically wish I had just pulled the battery out and replaced it for £6 if I had only knew. Mine was 3 years old but mint condition too. Gutted :(

I pop the battery out once every month or so and check its not started to go. Seems healthy enough so far. How long til it might start showing signs?

I have a Harmony One and to be honest it's pretty terrible. The combination of a touchscreen, a **** weak IR transmitter and inexplicable lag when executing macros result in a terrible experience overall. Touch makes no sense on a device that you need to physically point at your kit, since when you're pointing it you can't see what's on the screen. There's been about a million occasions where I've deleted stuff from my Sky planner because the first press took about 3 seconds to result in the IR code being transmitted so I pressed it again. Seriously, it's sending an IR code, why does it run so slowly? Added to that it lasts about 3 days off the charger despite sitting down with the screen off most of the time, what the hell is it doing?

I must say the Harmony Touch is a lot more responsive than the Harmony One, using the same key delays etc. However as you say, touch screens aren't meant for remotes which makes the Touch even worse than the One!

I've put the Touch on eBay, can't abide it any longer.

Looks like a Harmony 700 may by my next try, unless I can find a reasonably priced Harmony One/One+

It sounds like you're ready for a proper programmable remote. One where you aren't restricted by someone else's idea of a layout. One with a decent blaster. One that has just the right number of hard buttons and a decent sized colour touchscreen. A Nevo SL would take you up to a completely new level.

Have a harmony 1100 and one thing that I don't like is the lag
I find the touch screen useful. I would have liked a bit more customization, especially seeing as it's a screen! I like the wide range of the transmitter, don't really have to point it at anything. Sometimes the light switch.
I use it to turn tv, amp, htpc, lights on and off, also use it for navigation in wmc. (sometimes use free air mouse for this also, another logitech)

There's nothing really out there to challenge at that mid range point, the transmission lag is my main issue.

Just got a bargain, new Harmony One+ for £85. My Touch is up to £60 with 6 days to go, so its all good. The One+ is jus a One with the only difference being it allows you to config via the Windows software or harmony.com. Having experienced both, Win software is my fave.

Was tempted with a Buy It Now for a Harmony 900 which is basically a One with RF, coloured teletext buttons and sharper screen, but am happy with my One+. The 900 is also purposely crippled in that you cannot assign macro/sequences.

These last gen Harmonies are being offered up to £400, people really do not like the new ones - including me!

seems expensive to me tbh, i suppose its new, but still seems steep

Don't get me wrong, I didn't want to pay that much but looking at completed listings and what is available outside of the auction site, the price is reasonable to me at least :)
