Has 7 fixed the view icon bug?

They supposedly fixed this in Vista but you had to either install a slipstreamed SP1 copy or install SP1 straight after installing the main OS, unfortunately neither worked for me so i've just ignored it since..

If you've no idea what i'm yammering on about, it's basically when Vista changes the icon view depending on how it's feeling, what day of the week it is, etc. List, small icons, details, etc. I want everything to be the same throughout the entire OS, so it makes it much easier to browse, but it just won't do it.

Please tell me this is fixed in 7?

It's not played up as such yet. Although I have had to resize Games Explorer a few time, I was getting a huge game icon on the right and a single column list on the left.

It seems much better in Windows 7.

But I will sometimes dump a load of files into a folder, only to come back and it's view has changed.

Windows decides what to use based on what's in the folder. It's very annoying but you can reset it on a root level.

Still happens in control panel, add/remove programs and the games explorer. ie, it's not fixed. Quite pathetic really.

It's not a question of fixing it, it's functionality, although annoying, is by design. The bigger issue is that Windows can only remember you forcing it to show as something else for a limited number of folders, then it starts to default back to whatever it thinks it should use based upon the contents.

The only real trick you can do is to set the defaults for each content type to appear the same, that way it will always show what you want no matter what it thinks the folder contains.

That absolutely drove me nuts, until I found the registry keys for increasing it's memory massively.

I disabled automatic folder type discovery, and increased the BagMRU massively. That did the trick for me in Vista.
