My point was to get the best performance you pay a LOT (I have recomended the patriot stuff to a few people), as well as a £150 motherboard and two grpahics cards to get the advantages it offers. Nothing wrong with the AM2 platform it just needs some time to mature although conroe still looks to be superior.

yeah - my point it tha ddr1 was/is just the same, i mean, gskill le is still 160 quid per gig, thats the same as the patriot 1000mhz

Right, i started this thread cos i was very intersted in Intels new chip but as others have eluded to, my problem is with the company not the hardware.
i have purposly not looked at the performance graphs as i was more interested in the article and what Am2 could offer rather than benchmarks (who trusts early benchmarks).
I looking at potential rahter than marketing, is AM2 a 7900GTX or is it a 9800PRO (those whove been here for a little while will get that).

1st generation of any new socket hardware doesnt usually perform that well in comparison to later revisions..........which means AM2 should be really stellar in the coming months
Still doesnt discount conroe though as it looks like it will be a fabulous chip, I just hope Intel dont try and charge crazy mobo prices which is their normal way

Haven't they? Check out the prices of Dell and the prices of their Bill of Materials. Intel are pretty much giving the cpus to Dell, especially the high-end ones. That's anti-competitive and designed to keep AMD out of the #1 PC manufacturer in the world and therefore a lot of businesses.
