Has Anyone Else Noticed This About BMWs?

I've noticed on a lot of 97-99 BMWs the end of the registration is "GAN" - i.e S791 GAN etc. Is this a thing in London or something because I'd say 6 in 10 have this "GAN" at the end!

Someone please clarify because this is really getting on my ****!

probably all bought from the same dealership, they 'buy' batches of number plates

when my mum had her a-class, all mercs bought from the garage (hertford) ended in DMC, used to see them everywhere. even saw the ones with numbers directly before and after my mums

AN is the old style area code for Reading, where a lot of new cars seem to be registered for some reason. Same reason a lot of brand new BMWs have R*55 plates etc.

edit: MC is North East London I believe, so that'd explain the Hertford ones too.

cool site. so my car (HME) was registered in north london too. hasnt gone very far in 14 years.

BMW UK head office is in Bracknell. They will have been ex press/fleet/company cars from BMW UK. Look at promotional photos of cars like the E39 5 Series on sites like Parkers, they end in GAN as well.
