Dead Space PC - Crash after Install.
I know its an old one and been done to death, so apologies for that, but I've searched every forum/website I can find and still can't find an answer that works for me. I'm thinking I'll have to reformat and see if that fixes it but could really do without that if I can possibly avoid it.
I posted on the EA tech help forum but haven't had a response yet, just wondered if you guys could shed any light on it?

Basically I install and then click on the exe to run.
The screen goes black, the hourglass shows and then flickers once and exits, coming up with the dreaded 'Dead Space has encountered an error and needs to close etc..'

So far I've tried:

1. Reinstalling 3 times (both with and without firewall and AV disabled)
2. Adding an exception to firewall (and trying to start it with the firewall off)
3. Updating and reinstalling video drivers (tried both ATI and Omega)
4. The 'deleting settings.txt' fix - as my game wont start there is no settings.txt so I've tried creating my own (followed steps in another thread, both deleting and changing the width/height/top/left lines)
5. Unplugging everything (inc keyboard and mouse)
6. Tried starting in safe mode with networking but it wont connect to the internet to activate
7. Gone into msconfig and disabled all services and startup entries (for some reason it wont let me disable all of them, it says i need to be an administrator, even though I am)
8. Closed everything except a few system entries in task manager
9. Changed my resolution to 800*600 and done the whole settings.txt thing over again
10. Made sure theres no other HID drivers or anything
11. I've right clicked it and run as my admin account
12. Tried both the exe and desktop shortcut

This is an original dvd legit version.

my computer is a bit ancient but should run it according to the requirements on the case:

XP SP3
Intel P4 3.2Ghz
1GB Ram
ATI X800GT
Direct X 9.0c

IF ANYONE CAN HELP AT ALL I WOULD BE EXTREMELY GRATEFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been trying for 2 days now : (

Thanks for reading and hope y'all have a good Christmas : ) I will have a better one if I can play this game at last lol

Thanks for the reply - I was hoping that wouldn't be the answer!
GPU - does that refer to a separate chip/card that I need to buy and install in addition to the CPU I currently have? Or is it something that would come integrated into a CPU/Graphics Card if I was to purchase a newer one?

That 2.8Ghz on the box is confusing, I just compared that to my 3.2Ghz and assumed all would be ok.

EDIT: just looked this up, seems to be basically the graphics cards cpu - so i think i've answered my own question, cheers. I bought the game from a charity shop so glad my money went somewhere worthwhile anyway.

I think specially it's the shader model.
You'd have to buy a new graphics card.

And you're limited to AGP, so I think the best card you can get is the AGP 4670 (Or was it 4650?)/3850.
