has anyone ever had this memory problem?

hello quite a strange one :confused:

i have 2x512mb's of ballistix 4000

one stick is totally fine the other is rather strange. It only seems to work right when its hot. It cold boots no matter what pc i put them in and at what divider

i have tried loads of different timings and latencies to stop it cold booting

e.g

100mhz 2-2-2-5 & 2.5-3-3-7 & 3-4-4-20
133mhz 2-2-2-5 & 2.5-3-3-7 & 3-4-4-20
166mhz 2-2-2-5 & 2.5-3-3-7 & 3-4-4-20
200mhz 2-2-2-5 & 2.5-3-3-7 & 3-4-4-20
250mhz 2.5-3-3-7 & 3-4-4-20

all voltages tried too 2.6-2.9

and it cold boots i.e all fans spin up but no display, but here is where it gets very strange, if i leave it powered on and go make a brew, come back power of then on its fine.

Both sticks when warmed up pass memtest at [email protected] its seems to be when left off overnight.

problem is i dont think i can RMA them because i bought em off the mm a while ago

any ideas ?

ahh really well that is even more strange, as i have tried it in a few pc's (as you should always do)

tried it in my shuttle sn25p
tried it in my spare P4c800 + antec 350psu
and in a DFI ultra-d + Hyper 580

what else can it be, maybe a dodgy stick that just seems to work when it wants to ?... its the wierdest thing i have ever seen... i mean the other stick is fine, its just the other one works when it wants to

i will try to RMA it see what they say

I would call Crucial and explain the situation and try to get a RMA number.

yeah i am just worried because i bought it from the MM ages ago, so might not change it for me

i was hoping some one had a magic fix
