Right here is the problem im haveing.

under vista x64

on the desktop i can be working away or browseing net ect...
and i will see a flicker of the display...

and when i see that i always know what is going to happen next
when i minimize a window and open a new folder durning the minimize or maximize animation the desktop will freeze and the screen will go black then i have to hard reboot.

this happens randomly and i have no idea what is the cause, happens when card is overclocked or stock....

what could it be, has anyone else experianced this annoying problem

Something odd is happening, I've been getting this problem, and another. I'm on vista x64 myself. I've been getting another problem, where I basically can't boot into windows. As soon as vista starts up, it'll BSOD.

There's a few flakey drivers out there, particularly the 17xx betas. One of those did this "flick, flick flick" thing on the desktop and in games, it was a brown trouser moment until it went away with other drivers. Also, I managed to get constant BSOD's at the point of entering the desktop, had me baffled until I realised I was still running whatever chipset drivers windows had managed to come up with during install. The weird bit was that an older forceware driver ran fine against those, but the newer one was a big blue hand grenade.

But if your drivers are all normal, then it may be time to look at hardware.

One good way to rule out a windows problem is to boot from a CD, a linux live cd or even a run-from-cd game, or a utility disc. Even a windows install CD, as long as you don't let it get carried away.

Check your PCIe speed.
Is it set to auto ?
Try manually setting it to 100Mhz.

Is your machine generally healthy otherwise ?
Can you run Prime95 without error.
