Has anyone got an Air yet

A friend of mine has one at the moment but he's in US and I think it was a review unit :(

Dispatch date is going to be 3rd week in Feb for SSD version in UK according to Apple.

Any first impressions from him?? All the reviews seem to be very favourable, almost as if they need to be to justify keeping it :D

I'd consider getting one in a year when the price of SSD falls.

As they stand now, with current pricing.. no chance.

While its a nice machine, I think I'll be waiting for a revamped MacBook. My laptop is my main computer and I can't really live with no optical drive. Plus its too expensive for my liking and I expected more battery life out of the thing.

As soon as the MacBooks get a major upgrade I'll think about replacing this one. Otherwise a 2Ghz C2D with 2GB RAM is more than enough to keep me going for at least another 12 months.

The battery disappointed will probably be the deal breaker. I've always had an ultraportable for years and on paper the air is brilliant for me, it weighs the same as my current dell, has a bigger screen and is noticeably faster.

But the battery kills it, for similar money I can buy a toshiba R500, which is a third lighter and has a replaceable battery which lasts 7 or so hours...

What do you think of it? What speed like? Have you own a MBP to compare?
It's thinner than I'd ever had thought, despite the pictures - and lighter. People say it doesn't make a difference when you're carrying it around all the time. This thing is lighter than my trainers!

I've got the SSD version btw... which boots from power on to OS X (or XP bootcamp for that matter) in seconds.

Someone in work has an MBP and I had an MB. It is quite nippy, but it's definately (and noticeably if you do a lot of heavy stuff) not as powerful as the MBP, but comparable to the MB. I've got parallels running with 1Gb of the ram and it all works fine. But it isn't lighting like the MBP.

At the end of the day, it is a perfect travellers machine. I simply love the fact everything is external... external dvdrw, external ethernet etc. It means I rarely have to carry anything I don't need.

If you want power, look elsewhere. The MBA isn't slow by any means, but it isn't fast! :)

Any specific questions I can try and answer them. It does get a tad warm, too, but so did my MB.

EDIT - also, with wifi on/bluetooth off and brightness on 60% I got under 4hrs battery... slightly disapponting.

What price did you pay for yours and is the HD the only upgrade you did?

I was playing with one in the Apple store in Meadowhall the other day. Definitely thinner than I expected. Couldn't judge the weight as it was attached to a security device. Couldn't make the keyboard lights work when I covered the light sensor, which was worrying.

Think I am off to an apple store tomorrow see if I can have a play on one. The super-thin vibe does tempt me but just can't see myself being able to live with no ethernet port, 1 usb and no optical drive.
