As above, has anyone had any experience with this company? I've read about a bit and some VAG car owners swear by them. They do remaps for a decent price as well as other services alongside. Just after some more recent experiences if anyone has used them before?

Thank you

Are you on about Big Fish at Stokesley?

My friends garage uses them for any customers who wants remaps, also all their cars done by them and always seems happy with the results.

No personal experience though, but I would take my car to them as and when I get mine done.

Thats the one, i've heard a lot of good things about them so quite excited to try them out myself.

The company is run by a bloke called Jon Stokes, it's just a sideline for him, not his main business. I had my car mapped there, then took it to a dyno (he didn't have one then). While on the dyno it reached very mediocre readings and throttle sensitivity was massively increased (to make it 'feel' faster than it is). The bloke running the dyno told me he had seen the maps done by Big Fish before and said they were laughably bad. Whether he was saying this so I would purchase one of his maps or not, I have no idea. Jon did say he had run-ins with this bloke in the past.

I drove down two days later to get it removed, and to his credit he gave me a refund.

Good, honest bloke, but I wouldn't use them again.

A friend used them to map his leon cupra, a few months down the line at a local car meet we did a rolling road day and stuck his leon on the rollers.
His air/fuel was spot on and he emailed big fish about how pleased he was.
Big fish replied saying their happy that hes pleased with it and asked how much power he got etc, after a few emails they said to him, he could bring it down and they would do a check up and review the map for free.

What engine are you having remapped?

as above what engine?

1.2 TSI engine (turbo). As i was replying to the other guys in this thread i was actually at BFT getting my car remapped lol. Took about 2 hours and i have to say the difference is unbelievable! It really doesn't feel like a 1.2 turbo at all. Plenty of torque throughout the rev range and carries on all the way to 6000rpm. Even in 6th gear, overtaking on the motorway is a breeze now. I didn't get a RR done but plan to in a few weeks time so will update this thread with the read out.

Yeah Jon is a top bloke, i asked him how much it would cost to get the map off and turn it back to standard incase of warranty work and he said nothing, its free! Also mentioned that any newer maps available or tweaks will be done for free as well though not sure if that applies to mine as i had a custom map done using the data logs he got off my car.

To be fair he didn't have a dyno and was still doing better maps than an off the shelf one suits all sort of affair

It probably felt faster because it WAS faster !

Know of many very happy customers from big fish , don't always come out top on max bhp and max torque but most will argue its the area under the graph that matters anyway

I do believe he's got a rolling road now too which can only improve things

I can confirm he does have a dyno now and it's £50. Not sure how many runs you get though. Was gonna get it done today as well but just didn't have any cash left to spend.

Maybe do a RR day there one day? His premises isn't huge but the front car park could hold a fair few cars easily.

Just bumping this thread. I bought a remote STS map from Shark and have been left very frustrated and disappointed. I ordered the map/device 7 weeks ago. After a week of the order saying pending I rang them and they said they had no stock and were awaiting a delivery. Another week passed and still nothing so I rang again to be told the same. A member on Brisskoda was selling one so I bought that and told Shark to refund me the cost of the device, to which they agreed, however it took a further 10 days to actually receive the money. I received the used device, and to my disappointment, it won't read my ECU. I ring them, they asked me to submit logs, which I do. After a few days of waiting and nothing heard from them, I ring them back and they're apparently waiting to hear from the device manufacturer (Alientech). I email Alientech directly, they respond within 45 mins with a solution. I then contacted Shark and they still can't help, so they ask to be sent the device for testing. They can't find anything wrong and send it back to me blaming my OBD port. I've informed them my OBD port is fine as I use Ross-Tech VCDS just fine, and my garage have also said there's nothing wrong with it. Roll on today. After MANY calls to them, facebook messages, emails etc, I'm STILL waiting a fix and all they can say is they're working on it...

I'll be calling for a complete refund tomorrow.

Suffice to say, I would not be recommending them. I'm sure their maps live up to their reputation but their communication is shockingly bad.

What other maps can people recommend? APR seems popular but Jesus, I thought Shark was expensive! Awesome GTI want £600 for a stage 1 map!!

@Amraam

Who are you dealing with shark? Is it Ben himself or carl? I'm a bit surprised it's taken that long. Personally you should have saved yourself the hassle after 2 weeks and actually gone to their premises and asked for a refund. Even now I would suggest you to speak to them in person. Take your car and and the sts and show them issues. If it can't be dealt while your there ask for a full refund.

APR/Revo are good but shark themselves are expensive compared to the likes of Apr/revo.

I have a stage 1 map from shark it's a good map and I can't fault it. Although they charge me extra to map the dpf out. Bit steep of a price but I would use them again.

Never spoken to Ben, it's usually Carl. They've always been polite and pleasant, but it just feels like I'm going around in circles, and they're just trying to keep me on the hook without actually doing anything to get me sorted. 'Officially', they're working to find a fix, but I doubt very much they're actually sat there working on a solution, why after two weeks have I not had a single peep from them? I would just drive to them, but they're 3 hours away hence the purchase of the STS solution.

The main problem I've got, again due to their stock and lack of telling me about said stock level, is that I ended up having to buy a used STS device from a lead member of Briskoda. He's not a mod, but very well known and reputable; the device really was like new when I got. To Shark's credit, they took said device back to update and apply a new 'profile' to accept my car's ECU but it made no difference. They also claimed they had to have the device back to do so, which contradicts what Alientech themselves said. Anyways, I'm not here to nor meaning to bash Shark.

Normally enough would have been enough weeks ago, but I got this map on their summer 25% off sale, so if I get a refund any replacement is going to be quite a bit more. I'm reluctant going to a smaller tuning company that has maps for every car, as I'm dubious about quality etc. Shark were highly regarding in the VAG community, but their lack of communication is getting more and more noticeable from recent user comments.

Just how much longer am I to wait it out? I'm concerned now that they may refuse a refund by claiming that they were waiting for me and it's my fault that I ordered it 7 weeks ago, not theirs...

Peak power isn't as important as the curve IMO. A good curve will get you to 60 quicker than just slapping extra hp on top. That's how Mountune get Ford ST/RS to go quicker with seemingly less power than other maps.
