Has anyone installed or had herringbone flooring installed?

We were pretty settled on fitting or maybe getting fitted a howdens timeless oak click type LVT as it's got better water resistance than say laminate or engineered hardwood etc. Now speaking with a couple of places that do LVT they've both suggested going with glue down as the click systems can have issues due to weakeness in the design. Now I'm open to that, but they reckon that floor prep would be around £25 per sqm for getting a perfect level with a leveling compound and then around £25 per sqm to install, so looking at around £100+ per SQM for the glue down approach over click which would be about half that.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience in this space, I'm having a flow screed installed next Friday and that will be sanded the following Friday, so should be nice and level and smooth. They've said there is a chance the floor might be good enough, but just seems crazy to have a new floor down (screeded) and then have to install another £1200-1500 worth in self levelling compound before you even start with the LVT glue down.

Frustrating as we want it to be right, but £50 per sqm for prep and install seems pretty extortionate, or maybe I'm just becoming tighter in my old age!

Tell the floor screeders what you intend doing. They will get it spot on. Drop them a few extra quid.

A benefit of glue down over click is if you get a damaged plank. Glue down is one out and one in, click involves taking up several planks to replace on.

We had amtico basket weave glue down. It’s great and looks great. Like you they insisted on having a very level floor. They put a layer down of Ardex NA, then some Ardex liquid DPM and then a final layer of Ardex NA. Then installed the flooring. We did it all through John Lewis. It was expensive but we’re chuffed with the result.

As well in our bathroom I installed vinyl planks with the click system myself. It looks good too, but it definitely doesn’t feel as nice. As well we didn’t do the floor prep, and it moves in places. We didn’t want to spend a lot because long term we want to demolish that part of the house. It’s perfectly good though.
