Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever participated in a clinical trial, if so, share your experience if you wouldn't mind.

If i was very desperate i might think about it. But i can't see me getting into that level of financial difficulty.
Most people have said that it is very boring having to stay in hospital for a long time. Then again, the majority of these trials go through successfully.

Went for a screening on Friday with Parexel to test a new anti-depressant.

8 days in the unit for £1100, not too bad.

I'd been for a screening before not got on the trial due to my gamma gt levels being too high at the time.

I've done them before, and I turned out OK

It's only £137.50 a day. Not worth the risk for me.

Only reason I'm going for it is I need to get some money over my easter break from uni, but also have time to write my dissertation.

Also the risk factor is pretty slim in reality, or at least I think so.

I thought you were joking when you posted this, you do realise it was Paraxel that just put those blokes in hospital?

I assume you are now joking because it was an anti-inflammatory they took. :)

I would, and did sign up. However cos I had a hole in my heart when I was born they wouldn't let me :(..

I would still do it now if they changed there mind.

I don't understand peoples willingness to take part in these tests. You put your well being and health on the line for the sake of a bit of money.

But ultimately I guess somebody has to do it else drugs wouldn't be available to the public. So commendation on that.

as you said money, 2nd without these trials there wouldn't be modern drugs.
Its very safe. Yes theres side effects headaches, vomiting ect ect. But its extremley rare to get a serious side effect. As drugs have allready gone though many tests on animals and stuff.

Theres also diffrent stages of testing. The paraxell one, was the first human testing. small number off people high pay. Theres a secondry test usually between £300-500 which is administered to a lot more. Just to be safe.

Once you have passed all the medicals and you meet all the requirements, is it actually hard to be allowed to participate in a trial. a lot of people go for these things right?

i think i would be tempted if i really needed money fast and didnt have much to live for.

i wonder if drug companies will put the money you get up now.
