It's very possible they could go back on it for the 3rd. Daxter was much more chirpy and happy, like the original Jak & Daxter and it proved very popular. I am sure I read somewhere that Ratchet and Clank outsold both Jak 2 and Jak 3 and that Jak and Daxter (1) outsold both its sequels. Surely it adds up and Sony can see that Daxter was very popular and that a brighter, happy game is what people want.
It was a brave move to go dark and a good idea, if the game itself had pushed the idea through a bit more, or had him turn dark much later on in the 2nd, or even 3rd title it might have been perfect. I can't knock them for taking such a big risk on what was, at the time, Sony's biggest character title (replacing Crash Bandicoot as its mascot).
I will definitely be buying Jak & Daxter (4) and Ratchet and Clank (4) anyway as it's so long since I've played a game of their character and it will be a refreshing change from racing and first-person games.
On a side not, anyone else annoyed by the number of '4's on PS3 games?
Metal Gear Solid 4, Devil May Cry 4, Ratchet and Clank 4, Jak & Daxter 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Armoured Core 4, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Okay, so Oblivion is tenuous and a couple are now multiformat (but they originally weren't). It's not just PS3, it's all consoles. Sequels are getting to be so annoying. Bring on 'The Club', 'Lair', 'The Darkness' etc..
