It is an epic implementation of a flexible screen. Looks to me to be the best one - folding phones just had way too many flaws.

I really like the simplicity of the mechanism as well as the fact that if you squeeze it, the motor will kick in to shrink it. It seems very intuitive.

surely that is a "useful" feature

It's definitely the right direction to get bigger screens on phones while still looking very clean. It still has the issue though where you can't use glass on it, so it will easily scratch. And there's also the potential issue of the motors failing meaning you can't expand/shrink it any more.

to get around that, maybe have dampened spring mechanism without motorisation so it is all mechanical and then thats one less electronics and control likely to fail. or have that and the motor so it is like a fail safe...

i think this is definitely the right direction of variable form factor phones.

I think it is extremely practical have a varying format phone. Carrying tablet in its true form is not exactly convenient. This form factor brings that into yore pocket.

If this ever hits the market I reckon it will be quite popular, I for one am excited about it and I wasn’t keen on fold ones.
