what i want to know is has anyone tried to take their hdd with vista oem installed on it out of 1 machine and then put in a completely different 1.

would it still work ok or is it tied to the original mobo like ms say it should be. i mean you aint supposed to be able to install a copy of vista oem to any other machine once it been done the first time but you can, and this way you dont need a new activation code.

I tried that once with XP (retail). You will have no end of problems with drivers. If your changing platforms between AMD and Intel it just work at all, ever.

I imagine that Vista will ask you to validate again as I have heard stories that Vista is asking to re validate after just a BIOS update, let alone a being placed in a completely different machine.

Firstly, it's illegal and you'll void your OEM licence

Secondly, you have driver problems and a huge distruption to the HAL

Thirdly, Vista will ask to reactivate, so you've done nothing constructive.

well i suppose the only way to find out is to try it, but i dont have the money or the time but i'll bet someone out there has.

and there are a lot of illegal things you can do with a pc but it dont stop poeple doing them.
