I went down to my local branch of Arco in Portsmouth this week to find the store gone, according to someone at work they closed down months back. I checked their website and they were still showing the Portsmouth branch so I emailed them but havent had a response.

Now their website is down 'for maintenance'.

Does anyone know any info about this? If they have gone, its a shame cos I buy all my workwear from there. If they are still trading as normal then I think its really bad that they close a store and not update the website. I wonder how many other people have followed the directions on their website for the Portsmouth branch to find out its an empty building and no indication of a new store location.

Picked up a pair of boots at Christmas so they were still going 4 months ago and I think we got a few things in work from them since then.

We get Arco work safety boots at work. They are Crap... A pair last me a maximum of 4 months before the sole is splitting and seems falling apart. Useless, not good at all in my experience.

As in Arcos own brand? Never tried them personally but I'd imagine you're asking for trouble when you buy boots with their own label on them rather than buy from a decent shoe/boot maker. They sell a wide range of boots so try something different if it's an option. I wear a pair of Wolverines from their Durashock range and find them very comfortable. Got them when Arco had them on offer and nearly sorry I didn't buy a 2nd pair as they're as good as boot I've worn.

There are very few brands of cheaper safety boots that are any good. The only cheaper ones I've found that don't fall apart in a few weeks, months tops is amblers steel.

Arco boots are literally the worst excuse for boots I've ever seen. Poorly made, last for no time at all and wear away causing blisters. Oh and they make your feet sweat.

I paid extra for a pair of CAT boots, and they were amazing. Comfortable till the end. They survived in all weathers, with all sorts of chemicals on 'em. I only got rid because some idiot at work gouged holes in them with a screwdiver for fun which meant they started to wear and peel.

That's exactly it, you're far better paying a bit more and getting something that's worth wearing, it just doesn't make sense to wear cheap crap when you're on your feet all day.

Heard somebody say, get a decent pair of boots and a decent bed cus if you're not in one, you're in the other.
