As title.

Just opened a new bottle, first time having it in about 18 months (my staple is Stolichnaya elit).

And all I can say is it tasted vile. It was extremely harsh and the after taste is lingering way too much.

Have they changed something in the last 18 months because I certainly dont remember it tasting so terrible before.

glens is better.

grey goose is the product of marketing. much like jagermeister and magners. in fact the person who made grey goose what it is today also made jager what it is today. so it shows they don't have a heritage in making vodka at all just clever marketing.

all you need to do is send some bottles of your tipple to jay z and kanye and then let twitter do the rest. your brand has went from £0 to billions overnight.

stoli, russian standard and zubrowka are the ones to go for. anything more expensive usually not worth it. kettle one is supposedly decent.

out of the top ones i've heard belvedere is best with ciroc behind it.

I bought a bottle of Luksusowa after a recommendation and I was really impressed. It was only £16 a bottle and in my mind was much nicer than more expensive vodkas!

zubrowka drink a bottle a week great taste .. slightly sweet never get a bad head ..
best to drink the polish way 1hr in the freezer then a shot followed by what ever mixer you want .. :P

My top 3 and I have tried them all:-

Belvedere Unfiltered (Black Bottle)
Stolichnaya Elit
Beluga Noble

Grey Goose was a harsh spirit when I tried it last...

Surprised nobody has mentioned Chase, big fan of that.

Also surprisingly Costco's own label stuff is really good as well :)

english vodka? it's a gimmick IMO. they were on tv and your paying mainly for the brand name.

reyka is another decent one i've heard of. once you hit the quality of say russian standard after that your paying more for the brand than anything else.

vodka is made from pure ethanol. it's meant to have no taste. obviously the more times it's been filtered or distilled the purer it is. they then add water to it to weaken it as it cannot be sold with like 80% volume.

vodka if made right isn't supposed to be distinguishable. the taste probably comes from whatever they use to filter it or the water that is used to turn it from pure ethanol to vodka.

the reason why whiskey is different is because it's flavoured by the barrels. vodka is supposed to have zero flavour it's a drink just to get ou drunk rather than to enjoy.

Gin is just flavoured vodka. Flavoured with juniper berries. Again paying £40 for a bottle of chase gin again is a waste. the max anyone should be paying for vodka is £15-£25 a litre. any more then your probably being conned. same goes for gin.

Not sure about the gimmick of Chase tbh, I was bought a bottle of it a good 8 or so years ago long before it was as widespread as it is now and really enjoyed the smoothness of it :)

Reyka is a really nice Vodka but find it hard to justify the cost over here as used to buy it in the duty free in Iceland for £12-13 a bottle :)

Ironically I hate gin, find the taste far too strong and more often than not too dry. Ironically only knew it was related to vodka due to going on the Chase Distillery tour when they were experimenting with it iirc
