Went to log into my database through phpmyadmin and the username usually is rememberd by the program but today there were funny characters in the username field. Here is what was in it: >$y:;

Dont know what is going on!! Doesnt seem to be any data removed.

Any ideas??

Also my website is sitting on a development box within my work and not out on the wide web.

Sounds more like the local DB/cache of the credentials has corrupted.

Software doesn't go off to the DB to confirm the username on the user entry screen before it's submitted (usually) because it makes it easier to brute force the entry.

I wouldn't worry, but change all the passwords to put my mind at rest if you wish.

Have got the new release of phpmyadmin and now but when logging in on my PC it asks for username and password to connect to the server. But it ok if i log on through the server that its installed on.

To update phpmyadmin is it as simple as copying the new files over the top of the old ones???
