Has my email address been spoofed?

Hi - I've just had a load of undelivered mail/mail system error/undelivered mail emails appear in my inbox. The first thing I did was to change my password!

My email address is [email protected] - however - emails addressed to [email protected] will also be delivered to the same inbox.

I use Thunderbird on the pc, and K-9 mail on my phone. Whenever I send mail, it always shows as coming from [email protected]. Going on-line to BT-Yahoo show again that I can only send emails from the @btopenworld.com

All of the failed notices etc have been returned to the @btinternet.com address - an address I'm fairly certain I cannot send emails from.

Am I correct in saying that the btinternet.com addy has been randomly spoofed (or picked out of a mates address book my a virus)? I have no sent items in the btyahoo sent box. I've run avast and superantispyware and they show nothing.

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance.

Sounds possibly like backscatter to me, your email address has maybe been compromised or harvested - are you careful with it?

I'm as careful as I can be with it - I only try and use it for legit shopping sites - I don't go randomly entering it into just any old website!! What's backscatter?

dpbadger - the failed deliveries etc weren't sent by me, they were sent by someone else, but with my email addy as the sender. They contain a link/advert for an online pharmaceutical company

Grrrrr

Cheers - Quink :)
