I am a frequent user of wireless on my pc but sometimes i get the oppotunity to swap over to ethanet, I have used ethanet many times before on my board (Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3) but today when i plugged in the cable no lights came up next to the cable , at first i put that down to the drivers being missing so i installed them and then still nothing, Sometimes the light will stay orange and not change and other times it goes yellow and stays like that, In divice manager the only network device that is getting detected is my wireless card and that goes as soon as i take that out, Whenever i install the drivers is says "Realtek Network Controller was not found if deep sleep mode please plug cable" I checked to see if it was in deep sleep mode and nothing still, I have changed bios to default settings, Has anyone got any idea of what if going on?

Reseat the cable at both ends and restart your router/switch. What lights are showing on the router/switch for the ethernet port?

You can also try powering the PC off, removing the power cable and then push/release the power button and then put power cable back in and power the PC back on. I've had to do this with network cards a few times, normally older models though but still worth a try.

I would reflash the BIOS even though you are on the latest. Then while in the BIOS plug in a Ethernet cable. If you don't get solid amber and blinking amber/yellow lights on each respective LEDs then the NIC/Port is Duff.

I assume the ports on your router are healthy and you are using a known good cable?

Also test the NIC in Safe mode with networking. If all these tests fail then you will need to RMA the board or buy a PCIe NIC Card.

I gave that ago and sometimes the light goes on but stays solid

Also try a fresh install of the OS?

Ill give that a go once I get back from college

Fortunatly I should be getting a new motherboard soon so its not that much of a big deal and im sure that this board is out of warranty now :p, As far as im aware the router is fine, Its working with my other computer at least :)
