Has someone hacked my Mac?

I have a strange problem and I don't know what the cause is.

I live in a shared house with about 8 other people. I've been here for a couple of years now and never had a problem until a couple of days ago when I went to use my MBA. When I tried to login it said my account was locked and had to wait for an hour and it just kept increasing the length of time. I got in contact with Apple Support who told me how to reset my password and I managed to get back into my MBA but when I did everything was logged out. All my websites were logged out. Apps were logged out an everything. I used a new password when I set things up again just in case but I have no idea what happened. Could someone have hacked my MBA? It seems weird that it only affected my MBA when my Mac Studio is in the same room.

Does anyone have any idea of what caused this? I might just factory reset my MBA to make sure and start from scratch.

Not impossible but highly, highly unlikely. There have been account lock bugs in the past with MacOS, so that's a possibility but if you're in a shared house then the mostly likely culprit is someone trying to login.

If you're worried then, as you said, nuke and carry on. Otherwise run something like MalwareBytes (it's free; worth keeping to manually scan every so often) just for peace of mind.
