i ask simply because when i first made websites a few years ago, if the contact form didn't have some form of anti spam it would quickly get spammed, however my most recent (april 09) and probably most successful website has no anti-spam in place and hasn't recieved one bit of spam.

has spam decreased this way? i currently have my mail forwarded to my hotmail account, could it be that hotmail has a good anti spam system?

Hotmail isn't that great to be honest. If I didn't block everything except my contacts list I would be swamped in a day or two!

I have started using Google Apps to do my domain email and get around a max of 6 spam emails which isn't half bad.

Can't decide whethers thats down to Google filtering most of the cack or spam levels dropping!

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was improved anti-spam by Yahoo, but I think last year sometime, the amount of spam I recieved dropped from dozens a day to merely a handful. Coincidently it was around about the time a bloke in the states who was supposed to be the Mr Big of the spam world got done for it in the courts.

If "improved" anti-spam by Yahoo you mean lots of false positives and tagging legitimate mails as spam, then yes, it's "improved". :p

The free webmail providers these days seem to be in a fight to see who can be the most militant about spam and tag as much as possible - without regard for how many legitimate mails from legitimate senders they bin. Their spam solutions are often extremely heavy handed. Google seem to be better in this regard but Hotmail and Yahoo still have some way to go.

I think I read somewhere that spam makes up 96% percent of all web traffic up from whatever it was. And It wont go down there is no reason for it to.

My hotmail account has received very little spam in 10 years but recently i'm getting 2-3 a day now

I receive more spam than ever to my gmail account although 99% of it is correctly put in to the spam folder

My hotmail account has been receiving less spam than it used to.
