Has the FF XIII freezing issue been fixed?

After beating FF IX and feeling good I considered starting my FF XIII run on PS3. I remember when it was released there was issues with freezing and the game killing lasers. I looked around on Google but nothing seems to have been done about it (from what I can read) and YouTube comments (yes I know, scraping the bottom of the barrel) saying only weeks ago that their PS3 died due to the game.

I don't want to play Russian roulette with my PS3. I have the 40 GB model.
 
Took me 120 hours to Plat and I never had a freeze. Everytime a game comes out that pushes the PS3 these "OMG GameX made my PS3 YLOD!!!!!!11one!1!" type posts come out. I think it's a load of rubbish reallly. A game is not going to make your console, or any part of it die.
 
Never had a single crash, freeze or whatever in the amount of time I've played the game so I don't know what this is all about.

Granted that I am on a Slim 120GB PS3 so whether or not it is a case of different models that make a difference or it's just a sheer case of bad luck and coincidence.

Seeing as it is the 40GB model, is it clean and dust free? Does it crash with other games? Otherwise then it might be something to do with the Blu-Ray drive, since FFXIII runs off the disc only.

I have not even put the game in my PS3 yet till I am sure this will not happen. Some videos showing/explaining what can happen.

Yip, and you can type in any game and "freezing" and it throws up results. It's not specific to any game.
 
Completed (not to platinum) so probably 50ish hrs of play and not a single crash or issue. I made a stupid amount of saved games because of the stories i heard, but it was all for nothing.
 
No issues during my play throughs either, and my friend has been on it constantly since it was released, and she's never complained at it freezing either.

It'll just be scapegoat syndrome!
