I've not paid much attention to the PS3 but have noticed that shops on the highstreet have them in stock, some of which don't even have Wiis at the moment. I don't remember seeing the big fanfare that the Wii or Xbox360 got; the reports in newspapers and on tv etv.

Am I missing something or have they not done so well? If they haven't, is it the price? the games? Blue-Ray\HD-DVD? people just dont want one?

I presume this thread will be closed Jim as there are far too many debates on the PS3 right now, they usually end up in arguments and bickering.

Have a search mate...

I think overall everyone seems to agree that the PS3 has so far not livd up to expectations, but that could be down to superior competition. It would be wrong to say it has flopped since they havent even released any of their major franchises yet!

You'd have to look at sales figures for it.
Then you'd have to factor in the time of year.
Then to quantify if it is a flop you'd need Sony's sales forecasts.

I'd say that the supply of the console is good, demand is lower than anticipated and that the time of year, strong competition and lack of good games for the PS3 are all factors in the abundant availability of the console.

Flopped is far too strong a word and it is far too early to really judge.

YEAH BUT IT HAS BLUERAY!!111
YEAH BUT ONLY LIKE 3 GAMES!!
XBOX SUCKS SHUTUP!!

Thread summarised. Same as all the others. Boring :p

Its not doing too well, at work we sold about 25 units on launch and after that we have sold 1, which was mine.

At Christmas i think it will start to take off, ive had loads of kids in store saying they are wanting one for crimbo.

Wait for the games I say, why buy it for £425 when there aren't that many games?
Once LittleBigPlanet comes out and Home is released there will already be a larger userbase and then no doubt an explosion of hype. I'm really looking forward to LBP, should sell the system to me.

If you are a casual gamer, what reason is there to buy a PS3 right now?

I think things will improve when brand new games are released, so far they're pretty limited with motorstorm, F1 and RFOM being the better of the bunch.

Games being released that have been available on the 360 for awhile won't turn things round like Saints Row, R6V & GRAW2 they've all been around for abit now. I think from June onwards when games new to both consoles start to be released then sales will improve for the PS3, Septmeber is looking good for NR.

GT:HD didn't look that great when I saw it running, sure, replay mode did but that's hardly worth the price, especially for a one track demo... Given what is out and what's coming out on the 360 then I can't see that as a reason to buy a PS3.
F1, yeah, but you'd have to be pretty commited to get it for just that. I admit that it is good though, far better than Motorstorm which just failed to impress me. The damage was nice but I'd rather compromise and play Burnout...

The exclusives titles (that are good) are what people need before they commit to buy.

Considering it's only been out for a few months in the USA and just one month in Europe, then 3 mil consoles sold isn't that bad of a number..

Where it's not done as well as it should have is Japan ... The Wii has taken the shine off the ps3 in the land of the rising sun...

Hopefully once everyone realizes, & I'm sorry if I start a flame war here, that the wii is ummm last gen with a naff controller, hopefully the ps3 will take off like a rocket.. The 360 is a no-show over there so hopefully once the japs get some quirky ps3 games it'll start to shine... It's almost as if they want it but just holding out...

give it a good yr & half if the sales are still only around the 10mil mark then i guess we could call it a very very moderate success.

Q. Has the PS3 flopped?
A. No.
Quoted for the truth.

The PS3 just had a lot lot more units availble for launch with stock allways coiming in, thats why you allways see them in the shops.
