Built a Haswell based PC for my brother today and it won't POST. It's a combination of old parts from his Q6600 system and 2nd hand Haswell kit. The long and short is that it won't POST.

Mobo is Gigabyte H81m-h from the MM
Ram is 2x4GB Crucial LP out of my working i7-870 system
CPU is a 2nd hand i3-4310 with an old stock Intel cooler
PSU is his old mid range thingy from the Q6600 build

Is there anything obvious I'm missing in terms of compatibility? I need to buy a case speaker to hear the POST beeps to help diagnose.... Thinking it's most likely the CPU. Any help/advice appreciated.

There is an i3-4310M for laptops, and an i3-4130 desktop. It's unlikely to even fit the socket if it's a laptop one but I'd check again and find out for sure. If it's actually a newer i3-4150 together with a H81 that hasn't had BIOS updated then that would explain it, for instance.

Which PSU is it exactly? Can you test with yours?

Thanks for your help.

Took the cooler off and reseated the cpu and it all worked fine. Computers are so frustrating at times!
