Haswell Build ~£2k+

Hi @ All

Can you help me get started with some of the no-brainers on a new Haswell build.

Budget: Approx 2k but can go up to 2.5/3k if needed to stop having to cut any corners with the componants.
Purpose: Primarily gaming (but im starting Computer Games Tech Degree in Sept as well, so will be using for rendering etc)
Needed: Everything except mouse/KB and cooling; i will make seperate post in WC thread for what to get for a custom loop on CPU/GPU.
Notes: I like the look of 120/144hz monitors. Also, as im new to WC will bigger case be easier to work with?

Thanks

I'll be watching this thread, my budget is about the same and i'm looking to do the same with my system, only difference is i'd need a cooler for mine, so hopefully can get some decent suggestions instead of making a new thread.

Id go for something like this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x KFA2 GeForce GTX 780 3072MB PCI-Express Graphics Card (78NNH5DN00G0) £549.95
1 x Asus VG278HE 27" TRUE 144Hz 3D Widescreen LED Monitor - Black £399.95

You could get a lot bigger case but there are no E-ATX/XL-ATX 1150 Boards, only ATX and below so it'd look a little silly.

You can easily fit a loop in there.. You could have a Rad on the Top, at the front and a 120mm on the back.. Loads of options. :)

Not sold on the GTX 780 myself but it's the fastest card (bar the TITAN) at the moment. :)

Case can fit 2 240mm Radiators in nicely. Tack both HDD racks out and you can push/pull on the front as well. The top I think you would only be able to get push with a standard depth radiator (60mm ish) but that would need to be checked.

Case looks a little more finished to me compared to some at this size/price.

This board has been getting great reviews and is pretty much all anyone should want other than it lacks thunderbolt which may/may not be worried about.

If i want to get more screens or go 1440 and thus SLI in the future, what PSU should i get?

Also, in terms of OC'ing ability, which mobo will be best?

All the specs above have suitable PSU's for SLI and motherboards capable of achieving high over clocks. I would either go with the Asus hero or the gigabyte one.

I think the Mobo and PSU are overkill as is the case really (but that is your choice) The RAM is also excessive..

They are all good choices though

Personally i'd go with Stulids build: (the prices may have changed a little)

Cheers guys, ill jig things around.

I have seen a few threads floating around with probs on the UD4H....?

I've seen one thread.

But then there are plenty of happy users including Shadow Boxer who has his with a 4770k doing superpi 32M with ease at 4.93GHz.

Did you notice the two lots of RAM?

Yup, RAM looks great, thanks.

Ill be putting a single WC loop in as soon as possible to cover cpu/gpu and maybe the RAM. Just want to get everything in @ stock, check out what options i have on the case for WC and see how ive done in the 4770k lottery.

OK I wont worry about the MOBO then....
