4.6ghz @1.38V idling at about 31c, load 92c ambient of 25c.

using a black ice gts240 and 1800 rpm fans (forget which brand) and an old ek supremacy on an asus x99 deluxe.

is this too hot?

anyone with temp numbers on a 3 fan rad? am thinking of upgrading.

i wouldnt be comfortable with my cpu at 92% whatever i was doing, its a general rule of thumb to try and keep below 80 degrees, day to day gaming shouldn't really go above 70 ish, 92 degrees constantly could be degrading your cpu faster.

edit oh yeah seeing above yeah test how hot it gets in real world usage, while playing some games, if it doesnt go past 70 ish your ok, over 80 id worry!

It's way too hot imo and you're putting a lot of voltage through it, I'd try to keep it under 80C myself.

I've no experience with Haswell-E but certainly SB-E and IB-E run extremely cool if you keep the voltage at a sensible setting (I'm talking 60-75C under Prime95 on air with a top air cooler).

Does your temp go to 95C instantly or just slowly creep up? if it's a slow creep then I'd say your radiator is being overwhelmed, try fans with more static pressure or knock the voltage down - 1.38V is a lot for these chips.

Also, are you using the X79 optimised jet plate for your EK waterblock?

5960x running 100% load, folding 24/7 @ 4.4 @ 1.3v about 70oC tho it depends on outside temps as my rad hangs out the window :)

Do you need 4.6? 4.5 would lower the temps a bit
