Have decided it is time to do a full upgrade - current is 4700k (@4.5) +8gb Tracer (very pretty) 1866 ram+ saber z77+7950 x fire.
Watercooled cpu & gpu

Have narrowed choice to either Haswell 5820k or 4790k.

Computer is used for internet, very occasional work and gaming. I will be watercooling again - I like silence:)

Do like the look of haswell - 6 cores ; ram either side etc (msi gaming board does look nice!!)

BUT

Would I be served better with Devils Canyon?- better gaming potential or , as games become written for multi-core (looks likely?), will haswell have much more potential/futureproof.?

My apologies if repeating a ? raised a few times but am torn between 2 minds and would appreciate advise

n.b. am also thinking of changing gpu to 970 sli but am , for now , sticking with 1440 monitor.

Keep what you got.

Upgrade other stuff like a stonking monitor. SSD. Keyboard+mouse.

Maybe a pair of GTX970 if your board supports SLI.

Thanis for the input Stulid.
Do like my dgm 1440 monitor - recently upgraded keyboard to mechanical + mouse to razor imp.+ running 256 evo and plextor ssd's.

Being honest the system works well except for the fact that the small fan(onehad to be removed as the gpu would not fit) on the saber runs very noisy (5000 rpm playing metro last light was very intrusive!) and it's too much!

Have been considering a sidegrade to an asrock extreme 4 and might go for that + the asus 4 k 28" monitor. Worth it? (Both boards do sli)

Alternate to board is better airflow case? Am running 800d at mo and front to back air is non existent.

Have made the decision that an upgrade would be fun so have gone for:-

5820k
Asus 'S' Board
and
16gb Geil 2666 Ram

Just got to sort out the rest now and 'sell' the old stuff.

Am looking forward to 'new' build - decided that 'white' watercooling will be a good look and might go for new gpu's (currently 7950 x 2 - am thinking either 2 x 970 or maybe 2 x 290x) - so I can run a 4k monitor - Happy days:)

Why didn't you keep the 2700k and remove the armour fan, if airflow is good you'll be OK, grab 2 GPU's as planned and save yourself a fortune?

For the price of Haswell-E, the performance gain isn't worth it.

Agreed ! - BUT have got the itch and it will be fun to have something new to play with :D
