Haswell-e worth the upgrade?

5820k would be really nice. I don't understand how people say that 2 gpus with this processor would be a bad idea when there are people using sli and xfire in the mainstream platform (8x8) and are happy with that when here you can have a 16+8 for the gpus + 4 free.

Yeah exactly
You see people with quad sli on the mainstream platform and it works absolutely fine. You can see the same trend with psu power and people buying 1200W psus for single or dual gpu configs

Don't worry about PCI_E lanes unless your going for 3 graphics cards, I didn't listen to what people said and went for the 5930k as I wanted more lanes for PCI_E X16 on both cards. Since the CPU arrived I have benched at 2X X16 and 2X X8 and I actually get a couple more FPS in 2X X8 PCI_E, so this is the setup I run as I get a nice gap between my cards for cooling purposes.

OP what is your budget? Can you squeeze out the extra 200 to go for Haswell-e? If not then a 4790K is a really nice chip as well. In gaming you won't notice a difference between the two unless its a 6core -12 thread game which i doubt. But if it makes money for you with Photoshop and you need to be as quick as possible then by all means the 6 core would suit you more. If though you use the pc for some photoshop and gaming then 4790k is more than enough. Save the extra 200 and spend them on a nice gpu now that they got cheaper you can get a 780 or a nice 970, clock that and be on 780ti levels with less power consumption. Also the 25th AMD will announce something maybe they will have something to counter the NV offers. It's happy times this month in the GPU field!
