Hi all,

My brother in law has asked me to spec him a full Haswell system for £1000. His requirements are:

HDD
Motherboard
CPU
CPU Cooler
Case
PSU
RAM
GPU
Monitor
Win 7

I don't think I've missed anything obvious. He wants to play games so the best he can buy within his budget would be great. We are wanting to order it tomorrow so any suggestions for his budget would be great.

Thanks.

HDD - Has he a need for allot of storage music/photos/movies at all?
Motherboard
CPU
CPU Cooler
Case
PSU
RAM
GPU - prefer Nvidia or ATI/ does it matter to you
Monitor - what size/resolution you want to play at
Win 7

Other questions?

Are you overclocking, do you want to water cool the builder now/later?
What games does he generally play?

Looking at a decent CPU cooler, he won't be overclocking so don't need a mega expensive one. Looking to buy Curlyriffs spec, cheers.

Also will I need any cables for DVD drive or SSD drive or do they come with the board? Thanks.

The mobo I specced comes with a cooler.

I'm going with the MSI board so I need a cooler please guys. I've added an SSD to the budget, will that come with cables? I can buy one for the DVD drive.

You don't need an SSD for a gaming rig really. It is a luxury for boot/load times and to be honest once you have around 7 or 8 games plus OS on say a 256GB SSD that is full so it would be costly and limited for a 1k games rig otherwise.

The 1TB drive will suit fine. Can always upgrade to SSD in the future.

The stock intel cpu cooler will be fine if your not overclocking.

Plus as Idleman pointed out there is nothing to sacfrice off the spec. The PSU has to be good quality, the CPU, GPU & RAM really make the gaming rig. The only thing noted that could be saved on is the Mobo but at that price range you are looking to save maybe £40 on the board, why sacrifice as you don't really want to upgrade that later and have to strip the build down to do so.

Adding drives is easy and can always re-install windows. Also I should note that you should probably go for Home Premium and can always use the money saved there for a better cooler if you want.

Thanks! I think he wants an SSD drive, which cable would he need for that or do Samsung drives come bundled with one? Which one for the DVD drive? Cheers.

MSI board and card makes more sense though. Also I currently have a HIS in my rig and I wouldn't get one again after issues I have had with them.

As for SSD, the cable will be with the Mobo and is also SATA, same as a mechanical drive. The only issue is the extra cost. What SSD are you looking at?
