Hi, looking for a new (used) car, budget 22k

I travel c.180 miles a week as work commute, so economy a consideration and have a 3 year old so a car seat in the back.

Having stretched my budget up from 18-22k, I’m torn between the A200 AMG and 118 Msport (2020 models)

Think I’ve discounted the Golf and A3

I know they’re not necessarily a car buffs choice which I understand, but does anyone have any recommendations to push me either way or alternatives to consider?

My brother has the A200 and really rates it. It's basically a work van cum family wagon. He had one issue with phantom power loss but it's been fine since...
 
Alternatives:

- BMW 3 series GT
- Volvo V40
- Lexus CT 200H
- Infiniti Q30


FYI - I think you get a lot more for your money with a Golf

Go a class up and buy something like an Alfa Giulia or if you must be German, hatch and a premium badge a 4 series GC

Agree with the above though, you get more for your cash going golf, Leon or particularly Octavia (progressively losing desirability)

Megane RS MK4 is all you need!!! You can get a decent used one with low miles for £20-25K now.....insurance group 39 though!!! due to performance!

Basically this. Would throw in a Focus for good measure, however I don’t see why you wouldn’t go for a Mercedes C or E at this money. I do like the A class styling, but for a family car the bigger bus makes sense.
