Hate jogging bottoms, cotton alternative?

These days in SportDirect and the like, the only sportswear they have in trouser form is either jogging bottoms (heavy, look slovenly, hot/sweaty) or the 100% polyester tracksuit bottom things (feel terrible next to skin).

Years (decades) ago, I bought some (Slazenger?) training pants that were 100% cotton, extremely lightweight and thin, and looked like smart/casual trousers. Imagine a bed sheet, only thinner. They even had a cargo style leg pocket. They let a breeze pass right through them and were so light you almost weren't wearing anything.

They were definately some kind of training pant, as they had elasticated ankles and were made by one of the major sport brands.

But I can't find any shops these days that stock anything other than (awful) jogging bottoms, or those plastic things. Then the next step up is a full-on walking/hiking trouser or cargo trouser, which are obviously useless for any kind of sport.

I don't want to wear lycra pants, before anyone suggests it ;)

Any idea what I'm talking about? I just want a cotton training pant that is lightweight and doesn't look awful if worn around town/the house. Jogging bottoms always look awful. No exceptions!

I (also) want these things for lounging and going to the corner shop, hence the requirement to look smarter than joggers :p Also going to beach, etc, etc.

You can't lounge about in lycra ;)

I guess I'm weird because I like all-purpose clothing, rather than having one pair for this, one pair for that, another for the 2nd Sunday of the month when it's raining... I tend to just buying clothing I like then do everything in it :p

See, whilst I can run in joggers they look awful in other contexts.
And whilst I can walk/hike in Craghopper Kiwis (or whatever), they're no good for running.

But what if I could find something so universal that I could run in them at the same time as lounging in the house and going to the corner shop? I'd never have to change!

Yowch. After not running for about 18 months I did a 4 mile jog in boxers + loose fitting jogging bottoms.

You can now call me the Master Chafe.

That lycra is suddenly not looking so bad.
