Hey folks, so dissapointed, after all the issues i've had with my K850i, I replaced it with a N82 Black.

And its rubbish.

I don't care about sat nav or Wi-Fi on the phone, im talking about basic texting and interface. It is terrible, the buttons are horrid, my thumb is basically bigger than 2 or 3 of the buttons in a column.

Why why why did Nokia spoil the phone with such a naff keypad? Also, the texting is rubbish compared to SE phones, you can't use the arrow keys to select characters like you could with the K850i.

Also, the interface (main menu) is a pain, looks boring and dull like the cheaper Nokia models.

Grrr am I the only N82 hater here?

Don't forget im coming from SE phones, which, I feel, are miles ahead of Nokia in terms of texting, which NEVER used to be the case.
Even my gf was commenting on how rubbish the buttons were!

I *WANT* to like the phone, first things first, is there any way I can not have those irritating buttons down the side of the screen? (on the standard screen with clock etc)

Also, is there any 'flash' menu's instead of the boring static icons etc?

New keypads are always learning curves, but that'll work out. Texting works differently to SE phones, no better no worse really, you'll also get used to that.

If you didn't want sat nav and wi-fi why get such a big clumsy phone? Could have had the 6210 6220 E51 E66 N78 or something else, depending on what features you wanted rather than the whole kitchen sink that is the N82. They all still use the powerful SymbianOS/S60v3 combo...

But hey at least the joystick won't break unlike EVERY SE phone :)

It was my 3rd K850i in less than 9 months, the reliability was terrible, yet to this date, I claim the W810i as being the best phone i've ever had.
Lovely keypad, small, only problem was the screen and camera quality when compared to newer phones.

I only like candybar phones, I nearly went for the C902i.

The 6220 classic keypad looks lovely, I guess I maybe wanted to see what wi-fi on a phone was all about, im sure it could come in handy?
The N82 is ok size wise, screen is clear, camera is nothing short of brilliant (love the video quality) but the interface will take some getting used to...

Im gonna use the N82 over the weekend and try and get used to it, I know what you mean when you say its a learning curve, after years of using SE im bound to feel a bit unsure when switching brands.

What about the menu? Is there any way to get rid of the shortcuts all down the left hand side of the screen?

Also, i've noticed something I *do* like straightaway lol, the pencil thin button between the 'C' and 'back' buttons, that takes you to a menu, is there any way of customising that menu to let it take you to shortcuts you want, ie alarm clock?

Great stuff, thanks very much for your help guys, i'll have a look tonight and adjust the menu's.

The phone is orange branded but I have had it unlocked as im on O2.

I will debrand it soon I think, although I heard it voids the warranty if you change the product code... :/

OK, as much as i've tried so hard to like the phone, I just cannot use the buttons on the keypad.

My friend has smaller hands than me, and yet he struggled a bit and admitted he 'could probably get used to it...But they aren't good'

I could have got used to the menu system, and the Nokia way of texting etc, however, due to the buttons it is impossible.
I am forever pressing 2 buttons at once, or the wrong key when texting or dialling fast.

For those who may say 'text slower' that would be a stupid thing to do.

So, back to SE it is, they own Nokia now IMO.

Why couldn't they have made the keypad better on the N82? Why are they so stupid? Seriously, there is enough room to have made proper buttons.

Ah well, I won't be buying Nokia again for a long time.

It's gone now, im sure I wasn't the only person to hate the keypad, shame, as the phone would have been good otherwise, could have got used to the other features, just not the keypad.

C902 en route, much better IMO after trying it out in the shop.
