For the past few months (or maybe years) everytime there is a thread relating to Islam all I see is hate messages or messages against Islam.

Can someone explain to me why you guys Hate Islam so much...

I know with all the bad think some so called muslims are doing around the world, but does that give reason to hate the religon and the people who follow it.

I even seen comments by Senior OCUK memebers that really shock me! So ok freedom of speech but there are limits?!

I don't think it is Islam as such. Many people dislike all religions, with good reason.

Some people of course dislike Islam due to the atrocities carried out in the name of Islam. Of course this shouldn't be dislike of individuals.

I think my main problem with the portrayal of Islam in the media and in general conversation is the muslims are not doing enough to publically condem these crimes that are committed in the name of Allah. Consequently people feel that if you are not loudly condemming then you must be quietly condoning.

With reagards to incidents like Rohan Williams statement on the introduction of sharia law into the UK, many feel that this is symptomatic of a muslim lack of respect of the existing structures of Brisith society.

Am sure many people on here dont hate islam.

Islamic extremists yes, but then you cant judge an entire religon on a few idiotic extremists !

Why so? Having a high post count/being higher up in the hierarchy of a forum doesn't turn you into a demi-god or make you any better of a human than the next..... everyone has opinions and has a right to express that.

I agree with the stupid things people are doing in the name of Allah. However for 10's or maybe 100's of years westerners have came and done may bad deeds in the muslim countries, dont you think that they have reached boiling point.

Am not saying the should do the things they are doing right now.

Besides we are going in to politics now. Am talking about the religon.

I think it is mainly due to a cultural clash.

Some of the fundamental tenets of western society, e.g. equality for all, freedom of speech go against the Islam belief in images of Mohammed and the place of women in society.

Those would be my main beefs with the wider religion. Obviously I take a pretty dim view of the extremists, but I accept that that is extremism which exists in all areas of society,

Maybe, but I keep seeing hate stuff mainly on Islam...

As in most things of this kind it is the acts of a few that are portrayed as the beliefs of the many; this goes for "both sides" of the arguers.

I don't hate anyone. What sometimes gets to me is that I get treated unfairly because I am English and C of E (Jedi knight on census though doh!), and because I am honest and fair and try to do what is right but what isn't always right for me.

Many of us have strong views on religion.

I wouldn't say people are against the practice of Islam just that they disagree with certain ideals such as sharia law, and are against extremist. most comments aren't open insults at Islam mealy disagreements with its views or a certain sect / group of the religion

I would say hate = Kill all Muslims there all very bad people

and i dont think there is many who would go that far as to say something like that

It doesn't have anything to do with being a better human than anyone else but rightly or wrongly people might start to associate certain views with the shop. If they do that then Spie as the owner (or whoever in the OcUK hierarchy*) has to decide if he wants to allow such things to be associated with his shop or if he'd prefer a policy of "no comment" style whereby no political/religious opinions are to be shown without express disassociation from the shop itself.

The soundest business policy is generally to pass as little comment on contentious matters such as these as possible although on occasion if going for specific markets it helps to associate yourself one way or the other.

*nb most of the Mods are still not employed by the shop for what that matters.

I follow the Shia law of Islam, and from what I have read and learnt I believe its the right way to follow Islam.
When you have crackheads come on TV and preach rubbish from both Sunni and shia and bring a bad name to Islam and the media just makes it even worse, people start talking.

And its bad... the truth is never told.

It pains me to see people come out talking rubbish and others just think bad of the religon

Yes, I think this is more or less the point. It's surprising to see mods agreeing because you'd think that OC would worry about the impact on business. However - if Spie a] agrees with those points of view and b] thinks business is good enough not to worry about the potential impact on the shop then those viewpoints will stay outspoken.
