Hated Religon

The hatred of Islam in this country shows just how successful media propaganda can be, and how people are naive and willing to believe in something that is largely without foundation, ironically much like religion :)

There's only two things I hate in this world.

People who are intolerant of other people's religions..........and the Muslims.

They are one in the same thing if you only consider militant Muslims because of the view of militant Muslims. But not all Muslims are intolerant or militant.

From your other posts/threads you always seem to be incredibly willing to question everything with the scientific method.................have I got the wrong end of the stick?

I would have said so, because I don't question everything with the scientific method when it's used within context. I have said many times that science and the scientific method is amazing when used correctly. The problems come when people expect it to do something it was never designed to do, or take the assumptions used to make the method predictively useful to be useful outside of that context.

I'm a scientist by education, which is partly why I don't like seeing science misused.

Agnosticism is a religion is it not?

Agnosticism is usually defined as not taking a position, the 'I dunno' school of thought, you don't take a position on an untestable hypothesis (the existence of god(s)) and simply say 'it might exist, it might not but without more information I can't say for certain'. If you've ever got a spare couple of days there are some interesting arguments in the Atheism is not a religion thread.

I dislike all religion and my knowledge of Islam is extremely limited but I would say that the recent atrocities carried out by misguided individuals in the name of Islam has obviously caused much bad press.

Christianity and Catholicism have their problems and their history is also littered with terrible acts carried out in the name of God, buringing witches, The Inquisition, The Crusades etc. etc. Moderm times have seen these religions transform themselves in order to keep up with the changing times but there are exceptions

Indeed the Catholic churches refusal to allow contraception means that many thousand in Africa will die from Aids, far more than ever will be killed by suicide bombers or Islamic extremist.

That said hard line Sharia law seems to be like something from the Middles Ages, public beheading, stoning of women that have been raped etc. etc. This frightens the whotsits out of most people, this has absolutely no place in our modern society.

If you want to live under such laws then live in a country which has them, this country already has it's laws and they are divorced from religion. Anybody trying to subvert our way of life should just be deported to a Sharia country of their choice!

If you choose then to liv in the Country and the huge benefits that come from living here then you should intergrate into our society.

the fact they threaten to kill people for making g fun of them in huge protests, where as the Christians which most of this country are used to either laugh, or give you the small slice of cake. Makes people see them a little less favourable, especially considering the sarcastic nature of British humour.

What about

And religious intolerance does not necessarily have to involve banning beliefs other than your own. Christians declaring people will burn in hell, or atheists claiming that those who hold religious beliefs are mentally ill or stupid qualifies just the same.

So how are these "religion haters" acting on that intolerance?

I have all afternoon spare, much thanks for the link. :)

Why?... See thats what I mean ... Do you know what Islam is all about or do you hate just just because

OCUK Forum is an online community, people should respect other peoples religon and point of view with scense. Whats what I mean when mods turn a blind eye on all of this.

Do you ever take notice of why posts are made relating to the Muslim faith?, if you did you would notice they appear when some kind of outdated law such as sharia or the obvious opression of other faiths happens in a Muslim state. Also when was the last time you saw a suicide bomber from any other faith?. Islam has been twisted and warped into some kind of constant struggle against the rest of the world by a select few idiots. Pick out the idiots and stone them to death then Islam may gain some kind of peace from the knowlege that it is not being brought into disrepute by those who say they support it the most (militants).

Agreed, but it is still a minority whipped up by the mass media. I still believe that the vast majority of Muslims are law abiding citizens.

Under Islamic Sharia law Hadd offences carry the following penalties, set by the Qur'an and by the prophet Muhammad

These include unlawful sexual intercourse (outside marriage), false accusation of unlawful intercourse, the drinking of alcohol, theft and highway robbery. Sexual offences carry a penalty of stoning to death or flogging, while theft is punished with cutting off a hand.

How can anybody defend that, I mean FFS it's just barbaric!

I follow the Shia law of Islam, and from what I have read and learnt I believe its the right way to follow Islam.
When you have crackheads come on TV and preach rubbish from both Sunni and shia and bring a bad name to Islam and the media just makes it even worse, people start talking.

And its bad... the truth is never told.

It pains me to see people come out talking rubbish and others just think bad of the religon

I dont know what Sharia law is, frankly I should not need to! You should follow British law or move to another country.

If you want to follow Sahria law go to Iran and practice it.

I was only messing about. Read my post again :p

It was actually a quote from Austin Powers: Goldmember, Austins dad says to Goldmember;

"There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch."

I just changed a few words round for my own amusement. But I'm not very good at being funny on the internet.
