"Nothing will be decided until Ricky returns from holiday but there have already been talks about him fighting Gavin Rees. Ricky will look at the options and make his own mind up."
 
I think it probably will happen at some point, but after a beating from Floyd, Ricky does need an easier opponent for his comeback, not saying Rees will be a walkover though.

Very poor fight if it happens. However unless they pay off Kotelink then the fight wont happen, I think he's the mandatory challenger just now.
 
What is it with everybody jumping on the Witter bandwagon? I am a big Hatton fan and I would not pay to see him fight Witter. Witter is dreaming if he believes it is actually a big draw for the UK public, most of them have never heard of him. On top of that, most of his recent fights have been snooze fests.

I'm not a big Witter fan either, but his last fight was very impressive, knocking out Vivian Harris and if he fights like that, he'll have a pretty decent chance against Hatton.

Simply because Hatton said he would fight him and it was in his contract to do so but he never did.

Everyone knows that boxers give Hatton big problems which is why he wont take the fight. His main excuse now is that Witter insulted him, kind of double standards there. Hatton insulted Mayweather which is why he got that fight :p

The big draw part is rubbish, Hatton could fill the Manchester Stadium fighting a can of soup :p To have 2 UK fighters ranked #1 & #2 in the world at the same weight and for them not to fight each other is everything which is wrong with boxing at the moment.

i am a massive hatton fan and i rekon witter could beat hatton its 50/50 at best

this is the fight that the whole of the uk boxing sceen wants to see

Ricky Hatton says he will not be fighting WBA light-welterweight champion Gavin Rees.

Reports at the weekend suggested that Hatton could face Welshman Rees, 28, in May at the MEN Arena in Manchester.

But Hatton's father and manager Ray has revealed that the terms of the fight did not suit the 29-year-old.

"The prospect of a fight with Rees was put to us but the terms were not right and it won't be taking place," said Hatton senior.

"We have a long list of would-be opponents and a long list of venues.

"Ricky has said his next fight will be in Britain as a thank you to his fans who have been travelling across the Atlantic."

Rees, who is trained by Enzo Calzaghe in Newbridge, had been keen to face Hatton who lost to Floyd Mayweather in December.

"I'd love to get it on with Ricky," Rees told the South Wales Argus.

"It would hand Ricky a shot at a title, it's a fight the British public will love.

"The WBA title is a very prestigious world title so why wouldn't Ricky fancy going for it? I want the big fights and it would be a right tear-up, but if anyone thinks Ricky versus me would be a miss-match then they're having a laugh.

"I'm a quality boxer who would love to give Ricky a right going over - and I do believe I'd beat him."

But Ray Hatton has now poured scorn on that prospect and his son will now explore other possibilities.

Junior Witter has also been mentioned as another potential opponent for Hatton.

Well Torres is slightly better than Rees but there's nothing to gain from fighting him.

The WBO title is the worst of the 4 and Cotto already beat Torres
 
I'm in two minds about this to be honest, Hatton and Witter obviously don't like each other so I can understand why Hatton doesn't want Witter to get a big payday of his name.

However I'd like to see the fight purely to see Hatton slap the taste out of Witters mouth.

Just a note but didn't Witter tell the South Yorkshire Star that he was better than mayweather? :rolleyes:

“I get up for a challenge and they do not get any bigger than Floyd Mayweather. I'd rate it 60-40… in my favour.” :D
 
Witter is a complete tool.

Even some of the boxers in the gym he uses think that he is overrated. He would get knocked all over against hatton.
 
Hatton should fight Witter. Domestically this would be a massive fight and Hatton saying Witter doesn't bring anything to the table is quite frankly rubbish and is the same excuse he has been using for the past 7 years.

Don't get me wrong I don't like Witter as a person but no one can say that this wouldn't be a great fight... It has everything

1) Winner takes all... A must win for both fighters else they face retirement.
2) Clash of styles.
3) Clash of personalities.
4) Domestic rivalry
5) Both natural Junior welterweights (no excuses).
6) World championship belts.

Facing J.W. would be a big risk for Ricky, but lets face it he needs to get back on track fast else he might as well retire.
 
Would love to see Hatton vs Witter after Hatton has had say one comeback fight to get his confidence back, it would be a very good fight and in no way one sided imo.

What I really hope is that Mayweather and Cotto get it on early next year.

Yes good news... Despite not being a Witter fight you can deny this guy works hard and deserves his shot at the big time. Will be supporting him in these fights for sure.
